The world needed a better looking cane, so TOP & DERBY designed one. For hundreds of years, walking canes were common fashion accessories which were made and worn with pride. But as time went on, the aesthetics were abandoned and the finely crafted artifacts were replaced with cold, clinical, and impersonal items of utility. Today, most canes and home healthcare products are ugly and do little to inspire the self-confidence of those who use them.

TOP & DERBY's story is simple: They saw an opportunity and launched TOP & DERBY, with the vision of disrupting a stagnant industry that lacks innovation. They aren’t reinventing the wheel, they are just designing beautiful home healthcare products that work, and that people can be proud to own.

In 2013, TOP & DERBY launched our inaugural product; the Chatfield Walking Cane, through a successful 30-day crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The campaign allowed they to test the market before investing further in the manufacturing of their product. Since then they have shipped their walking sticks to customers in over 110 cities and 9 countries around the world. In 2014 they received an IDEA Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America. This recognition inspired them to seek out opportunities to re-imagine other poorly designed medical products. In the spring of 2015 they launched another successful crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter. This time to introduce their new line of modern compression socks.

As TOP & DERBY has gained further traction in the market, we have continued to receive positive feedback from people who share stories with us about the ways in which their canes and compression socks have made a positive impact in their lives. There’s an assumption that people don’t want well-designed home healthcare products. But, when they ask users what they want, they couldn’t echo our vision more. They aim to change the stigma of disability and inspire the self-confidence of people who use their products.
